Trolling: One of the most popular methods for catching mahi-mahi is trolling. This involves dragging a lure or bait behind a moving boat. The key to successful trolling is to keep the bait at the right depth and speed. Mahi-mahi are attracted to bright colors, so lures with pink, yellow, or green are effective.
Live bait: Another effective method is to use live bait. Mahi-mahi are known to feed on small fish, so using live bait like sardines or small mackerel can be effective. You can rig the live bait on a hook and cast it out or troll it behind the boat.
Casting: Mahi-mahi can also be caught by casting lures or baits from a stationary boat on structure like kelp beds. This method is particularly effective in areas where mahi-mahi are known to congregate, such as around floating objects or weed lines.
