America’s Shark Boat takes divers and non divers up close and personal with the ocean’s top predator, the great white shark. Since 2000 Guadalupe Island is one of the few places in the world where divers can interact with white sharks in their natural habitat. Guadalupe Island lies off the west coast of Mexico. This is a newly named Bio-Sphere Reserve, one of only seven in the world, adds a level of international protection for the Pacific white shark population that gathers here from June through January each year.
Isla Guadalupe Cage Diving Experience
The main reason Guadalupe Island has become a top spot for cage diving charters with these sharks are the warmer waters and the amazing visibility. Over the past 18 years the MV Horizon has catalogued dive visibility on average ranging from 125ft-150ft which makes this cage diving destination the best in the world in terms of seeing white sharks for days on end.
As of the end of the 2017 white shark cage diving season we have officially identified over 203 individual sharks at Guadalupe Island. There are two distinct seasons at the island which you can take advantage of. From late June to mid September is when the younger frisky males arrive at the island. These animals have a “bite first, ask questions later” when it comes to hang abits so get ready with your cameras. By September the much larger breeding aged females start showing up and then you see a mix of all sorts of sharks until October and November when the younger males move off the island and only the true giants remain. We call this the Time of the Titans. For cage divers the combination of warm, clear, blue waters and the excitement of coming so close to great white sharks makes the Guadalupe Island cage diving experience the best in the world.
Scuba Tips For Cage Diving
America’s Shark Boat, the MV Horizon, is the only vessel that departs from San Diego to Guadalupe Island. We run cage diving charters at peak season only from June through November and specialty charter for research and film and tv productions throughout the shark season. Cage diver’s soon get used to our shark cages that are attached to the stern of our vessel with surface supplied air. Our unique cage diving system was developed and pioneered for use at Guadalupe Island in 2001, and was designed so non divers could cage diving with white sharks as well.
On our vessel you’ll enjoy chef prepared meals and snacks, complimentary wetsuits, free beer and wine, and much more. Cage diving is exciting in terms of the amount of gear you’ll need to dive with sharks, a properly fitted wetsuit, mask, weightbelt and regulator and you’ll be all set to go.
