2021 Shark Cage Diving at Guadalupe Island
Guadalupe Island in Mexico remains the top destination for great white shark encounters and has done since we first discovered white sharks here in 2000. For the past 21 years we have cage dived and identified over close to 400 great white sharks while conducting safe shark cage diving operations, guaranteeing unforgettable great white shark encounters.
The Great White Shark Success Story in Mexico
Great white sharks are making a comeback in Mexico thanks to stronger environmental protections and conservation pushes by conservation minded shark divers around the globe. The species’ population has plunged by more than 70% over the past 30 years, but not off the coast of Mexico’s Isla Guadalupe, where shark divers from around the globe join America’s Shark Boat to cage dive with them.
How to Get To Guadalupe Island
The only way to dive at Guadalupe Island is via liveaboard. Our vessel has been departing from San Diego, California, USA since 2000. The journey to the island lasts approximately 18 to 22 hours over wide open Pacific ocean until our vessel first sights the towering 5000 foot mountains of Guadalupe in the distance.
Joining America’s Shark Boat at Guadalupe Island
Our shark divers boat America’s Shark Boat in San Diego and we arrive Guadalupe Island on Day 2 in the early morning, which gives us plenty of time to get our Guadalupe shark cages in the water and begin your unforgettable adventure. Our cages are in the water from sunrise to sunset on Day 2, 3 and 4.
Our onboard amateur naturalist, Lalo, has been with us for over 5 years and has developed quite a following among our guests. Lalo is Guadalupe’s top shark diving guide and loves the opportunity to share his knowledge of the great white sharks you’ll be diving with, creating a fantastic opportunity for shark photography and white shark videos.
You’ll say goodby to the huge great white shark population of Guadalupe Island at the end of Day 4, our guests settle in for the comfortable crossing back to San Diego, arriving by noon on Day 5.
