California Wreck Alley Diving

Located right around Waterhorse Charters scuba shop and boat slip, the Wreck Alley is a set of sunken structures covered in artificial reef and ocean life. Its highlights are the HMCS Yukon, the largest (366ft), most accessible, and most intact shipwreck in California; the Ruby E., a 166ft Coast Guard cutter lying upright in about 80ft underwater; and the NOSC Tower, a naval research installation toppled by a large storm in 1988.

California Kelp Forest Diving

The headland of Point Loma is home to many notable dive sites along the 6 miles of coastline. Big boulders, overhangs, scattered walls, and luscious kelp forests are shelter to a diversity of marine life. Shallow and deep sites make the area suitable for all scuba diving levels. Notable spots include New Hope Rock, Three Fingers, Main Wall, Dyno Head, Lazy Daze, NRAD, and North/South Pipe.

Coronado Islands Diving

The Mexican Coronado Islands also offer great diving for all experience levels. The islands are home to an abundance of marine life including sea lions, harbor seals, horn sharks, and eels. Dive conditions tend to be better than local San Diego. This is Waterhorse Charters longest day trip, but you’ll still be back home in time for dinner.

The Company

Waterhorse Charters was founded in 2006 as a premier scuba diving boat in San Diego. Located right in Mission Bay with quick access to the famous Wreck Alley and unique kelp forests, it soon grew into the best day boat San Diego has to offer. The Dive Boat

The Humboldt is a custom Newton 46′ dive special with a “West Coast” twist. With an extended galley to shelter divers between dives, the vessel features onboard air compressors, a fresh hot water shower, a self-service oversized galley full of yummy food, and a comfy 2nd deck to enjoy the views. Twin boarding ladders and a water-level swim platform make scuba diving off the Humboldt easy and accessible to all divers. Besides all required coast guard safety equipment, Waterhorse Charters always has a crew member onboard watching your every bubble. With a maximum load of 22 divers, you will find plenty of space for yourself, your gear, and your dry bags.
