May 30, 2011 San Clemente
Captains Log, May 30th, 2011 Dive Animals Day 3
We awoke today to a splendid sight: Less wind! At a very manageable 15kts, we were able to anchor up on two anchors at Twin Peaks for the first two dives. Twin Peaks is an amazing wall that runs parallel to the South-East end of the island, with soft, flat sand at the base in about 70ft of water. Divers reported 6 Gill Shark sightings, more Bat Rays, and some nice visibility in the 30ft range. Given the conditions over the past few days, we lucked out! The skies were also nice to us, giving us a full day of sunshine to bask in between dives and on the way home.
Before turning back however, we made a stop at Petter’s Kelp for a final round of dives. A friendly Harbor Seal came by for a close-up as our divers returned from their first dive. One of our more adventurous passengers took a Kayak ride through the cove, enjoying the peacefulness of the wind and waves crashing on the rocks; a far cry from the sounds of the generators and compressors.
Unfortunately though, all great things must come to an end! After quite the adventurous weekend at sea, home is on the Horizon. We’ll be back at it again June 10th, with a weekend trip back to San Clemente with Ocean Enterprises. Give ‘em a call and join us! See you there.
